Polmaise Bowling Club enjoyed another fantastic day on the green for the annual John “Chucks” Johnstone Memorial Tournament, bringing together members and friends for a day of competitive bowls, good company and, most importantly, remembrance.
The tournament is held each year in memory of Charlie “Chucks” Johnstone, a much-loved figure at Polmaise Bowling Club. It remains a special fixture in the club calendar and a fitting way for members to come together, enjoy a day of bowls and keep Chucks’ memory very much alive.
Seven Games, Seven Wins
This year’s winners were:
William “Maxi” Maxwell, James Craig and Club President David Stewart
The trio produced an outstanding unbeaten performance throughout the entire tournament, playing seven games and winning all seven on their way to lifting the memorial trophy.
Waiting for them in the final were Donald Dalgliesh, Jamie Sneddon and John McKenna, who had themselves enjoyed an excellent tournament before finishing as worthy runners-up.
Congratulations to both teams, and particularly to Maxi, James and Davie on completing a remarkable perfect record across the day.
A Great Day for the Club
The success of the day extended well beyond the bowling.
A fantastic buffet was provided by Christine’s Butcher & Deli on Main Street, Fallin, and was greatly appreciated by everyone in attendance.
A huge thank you also goes to the Gothenburg Bar staff, who looked after players and members throughout the day and kept the drinks flowing from start to finish.
As well as being a thoroughly enjoyable occasion, the tournament was also a financial success for Polmaise, generating a £212 profit for the club.
Thanks and Appreciation
Events like the Chucks Memorial only continue to thrive because of the people who give their time and support year after year.
A special thank you goes to Chucks’ son Rab Johnstone for his continued involvement and support in keeping the tournament going, along with all the Polmaise members who helped organise and run the day.
Thanks also go to every player who took part and helped make the tournament such a success. The excellent spirit in which the competition was played was a fitting tribute to the man at the heart of the occasion.
Most importantly, the day was about remembering Charlie “Chucks” Johnstone. The continued support for his memorial tournament shows the affection in which he is still held at Polmaise and ensures that his name and memory remain an important part of the club.
