Club History

Polmaise Bowling Club was founded in 1911, deeply rooted in the rich mining heritage of Fallin. As the village grew alongside the coal industry, the club was established with a £286 donation from the Gothenburg Public House, a community hub that played a vital role in funding local initiatives. Early members—many of them miners—chose to build a bowling club over a swimming pond, a decision that shaped generations of bowlers.

Since its inception, Polmaise has been a cornerstone of the community, offering a place for camaraderie, competition, and sporting excellence. The club played its first official match on July 12, 1911, against Spittalmyre, and has since seen countless games, tournaments, and memorable moments on its green.

Over the years, Polmaise has produced champions at local, national, and even British levels, with players earning county, Scottish, and international recognition. The club has also been home to legendary figures whose achievements and personalities have left an enduring legacy. The club's history is rich with talent and tradition.

The social spirit of Polmaise is as strong as its sporting one. From bus trips filled with song to friendly rivalries, the club has always been a place of shared stories and laughter. Even during the challenges of COVID-19, Polmaise adapted, using the time to renovate its clubhouse and ensure its future for the next generation.

In recent years, the club has continued to thrive, winning multiple district and national titles, including victories in the Stirling County Top Five and Top Ten competitions.

Today, Polmaise Bowling Club remains committed to its heritage while embracing modern approaches to the sport and club management. Whether through competitive success, community engagement, or the friendships forged over decades, Polmaise continues to be a beacon of sporting excellence and camaraderie in Fallin.
