Polmaise Bowling Club was proud to host another fantastic instalment of the Greg Ryan Memorial Pairs Tournament, held in memory of one of our club's cherished young members. The event drew a brilliant turnout, and the spirit of competition and camaraderie was clear throughout the day.
This year's winners were Sandy Deans and Aaron Furzer, who played exceptionally well throughout the tournament and secured a well-deserved win in the final.
They faced off against James Craig and Andrew Borg, who took runner-up honours with a strong performance. Their appearance in the final was a remarkable achievement — especially considering this is Andrew's first year as a bowler and only James' second. The entire club is proud of their progress and performance on the green.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Greg Ryan's family, particularly Greg's father, John, who attended and gave a touching speech. During his remarks, John gave special recognition to Peter Black, who not only introduced Greg to bowls, but also inspired many other young players to pick up the sport. It was a moving moment that reminded everyone of the positive and lasting impact Greg had on our community.
Thanks are also due to Alex Brown, our Club President, and all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event a success — including Sandy Deans, Gary Malcolmson, Agg McNeil, Tilly Begg, Mag Armitage, Elaine McMeechan, Sonia Donaldson, Lawrence Muir Begg, and many others who support the club all year round. Special thanks also to the staff at the Gothenburg Fallin for keeping us all refreshed during the day.
And of course, a huge thank you to John, Veronica, and Casey Ryan for their continued sponsorship and presence — it was lovely to see them all there.
