SILVERWARE FOR RITA AND GARY
There were celebrations in the Stirling area last week as two outstanding Polmaise bowlers collected national silverware. Rita Smith and Gary Malcolmson were in dazzling form on the sun-drenched Northfield greens in Ayr to become the Bowls Scotland mixed pairs champions.
The Polmaise duo clinched the Scottish title on Thursday afternoon with a highly convincing 18-4 victory over the Sandhead club from Stranraer - with an amazing three ends to spare!
Earlier wins over Calderbank (20-16), Langside (20-12), Hillside (18-16) and Springside (15-10) put Rita and Gary into the final where they completely blew away their south of Scotland opponents.
Their national success was the Stirling district's first since 2002 when Polmaise triples triumphed on the same stage.
